On 31 August 2026, Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), met with Mr. Lau Peet Meng, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Singapore, to exchange views and promote aviation cooperation between Thailand and Singapore, in preparation for Singapore’s ASEAN Transport Chairmanship in 2027. The meeting was held at the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel.
The discussions focused on cooperation between Thailand and Singapore in the area of air navigation, particularly the advancement of the “Seamless ASEAN Sky” concept. The initiative aims to promote greater connectivity and integration of air navigation systems among ASEAN Member States, reduce operational constraints on international flights, and enhance the efficiency of regional airspace management.
In addition, both sides exchanged views on potential areas and approaches for strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation, including the sharing of experiences and best practices in aviation regulation and management. Such cooperation would contribute to the development of a safer, more efficient, and better-connected air transport system across the ASEAN region.
The meeting reflected the close relationship and strong cooperation between Thailand and Singapore, providing an important opportunity to shape future cooperation and support the advancement of the ASEAN aviation sector. CAAT reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with Singapore in promoting enhanced air navigation connectivity, which will play an important role in improving the efficiency and capacity of the region’s aviation system to accommodate the continued growth of air travel. The Director General of CAAT will also convey the information and insights gained from the meeting to the Minister of Transport to support the formulation of future cooperation directions and lay the foundation for further international transport cooperation.
