Dangerous Goods for Passengers

  What are dangerous goods?
 
Articles or substances which are capable of posing a hazard to health, safety, property or the environment and which are shown in the list of dangerous goods in DOC 9284 Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO TI), or which are classified according to ICAO TI.
 
  What are 9 Classes of Dangerous goods?
 
Substances and articles subject to ICAO TI are assigned to one of nine classes according to the hazard or the most predominant of the hazards they present. Some of these classes are subdivided into divisions. These classes and divisions are:
 
Classes Labels
Class 1: Explosive  

 

Class 2: Gases  

Class 3: Flammable liquids  

Class 4: Flammable solids; substances liable to spontaneous combustion; substances which, in contact with water, emits flammable gases  

Class 5: Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides  

Class 6: Toxic and infectious substances  

Class 7: Radioactive material  

Class 8: Corrosive substances  

Class 9: Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles, including environmentally hazardous substances

Passenger or crew are forbidden to carry dangerous goods either as or in carry-on baggage, checked baggage or on person unless the dangerous goods are permitted in accordance with  ICAO TI or IATA DGR and personal use only for example:

Refer to the conditions of carriage of your airline, as they may impose special requirements or prohibit certain dangerous goods.
