Thailand and Vietnam Discuss Closer Aviation Cooperation at 42nd ICAO Assembly

September 24, 2025, a delegation from Thailand, led by Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), met with H.E. Le Anh Tuan, Vice Minister of Construction and head of the Vietnamese delegation. The meeting took place during the 42nd Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly, held at ICAO Headquarters in Montreal, Canada.

This discussion served as an important opportunity for knowledge exchange. The Vietnamese side inquired about Thailand’s airport management, while Thailand took the opportunity to invite Vietnam to collaborate and support the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) and Training Center at Suvarnabhumi Airport, with the goal of enhancing regional aviation capabilities. Both parties also discussed ways to jointly promote tourism through the aviation sector, aiming to attract more tourists to the region. Coordination with relevant tourism agencies from both countries will follow.

Additionally, during the meeting with the Vietnamese Vice Minister of Construction, Thailand requested support for its candidacy for a seat on the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the 2026-2027 term under Category C. The election will take place at the 34th IMO Assembly in November 2025 at IMO Headquarters in London, United Kingdom. The Vice Minister of Construction of Vietnam has agreed to support Thailand’s candidacy.
