Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), was recently invited by Mr. Edward C. Freni, Executive Director of Aviation at Boston Logan International Airport, to discuss and explore the potential for launching a direct flight route between Thailand and Boston.
During the visit, Mr. Matthew Hatfield, Director of Airline Route Development, Aviation Administration, Massachusetts Port Authority, welcomed the delegation and provided a guided tour of the airport facilities. Mr. Hatfield also presented the capabilities and readiness of Logan International Airport, one of the busiest and most strategically significant airports on the East Coast of the United States. The airport plays a vital role in the regional economy, and is a hub for education, innovation, and global connectivity.
This feasibility study marks a strategic step forward in expanding Thailand’s air connectivity to the New England region, home to globally renowned academic institutions such as Harvard University and MIT, as well as a vibrant business ecosystem and a growing Thai community.
In addition to offering more travel choices for passengers, the proposed Bangkok–Boston direct flight route has strong potential to boost Thailand’s economy, tourism, and investment prospects. It would also enhance the competitiveness of Thai carriers in the long-haul international market, which is steadily recovering and expanding.
CAAT remains committed to developing strategic air routes as part of its long-term vision to position Thailand as a leading aviation hub in a region.
