From 1–12 December 2025, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), through its Personnel Licensing Department (PEL), conducted Advanced UPRT and Advanced UPRT Instructor courses for Thai flight instructors. The training aims to enhance aviation safety and elevate the quality of flight training in accordance with international civil aviation requirements.
The program was delivered with the expertise of Mr. Laurent Beringuier and Mr. Michel Levy, specialists from the Directorate General for Civil Aviation of France (DGAC France), who provided advanced theoretical and practical instruction.
Advanced UPRT has become essential due to the implementation of TCAR PEL Part FCL, which requires pilot trainees seeking Type Rating qualification to complete advanced-level UPRT before commencing aircraft-specific training. This requirement is a critical measure to reduce the risk of Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I)—a leading contributing factor in aviation accidents worldwide.
By equipping instructors with advanced competencies, CAAT ensures that pilot training programs in Thailand meet the highest safety and competency standards.
The training received strong support from the Bangkok Air Aviation Training Center (BATC), which provided training facilities, equipment, and aircraft for practical exercises. In addition, an aerobatic aircraft was made available through the support of Mr. George Macak, President of the BFA Flying Club, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience in maneuvering and recovery techniques under realistic conditions. This significantly enhanced both the effectiveness and the safety of the training.
The successful completion of the Advanced UPRT and Advanced UPRT Instructor programs represents a major step forward in strengthening Thailand’s aviation training ecosystem. The program supports CAAT’s mission to elevate safety oversight, enhance pilot competency, and align national training standards with international best practices.
CAAT remains committed to promoting safe, efficient, and high-quality aviation training, ensuring that Thai pilots are well-prepared and confident as they progress to advanced aircraft training and future professional operations.
