On 7 September 2026, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) expressed its commitment to supporting cooperation under the Assistance, Capacity-building and Training for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (ACT-SAF) Programme of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), during the 61st Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation, Asia and Pacific Regions (DGCA/61) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Thailand has been selected to participate in the ICAO ACT-SAF Programme, which aims to strengthen the capacity, knowledge, and readiness of Member States to develop and promote the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in accordance with each country’s potential and national circumstances, while supporting long-term efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from international aviation.
Under this cooperation, Thailand, the Republic of Korea, and ICAO will jointly undertake a Feasibility Study to assess Thailand’s potential and readiness, with particular emphasis on locally available feedstocks with potential for SAF production. The study will also explore appropriate pathways for the development and deployment of SAF in Thailand’s aviation sector, taking into account the country’s specific context and capabilities.
The findings of the study will provide important information to support Thailand’s future SAF development, including the potential of domestic feedstocks, supply chain readiness, and other key factors related to SAF deployment in the aviation sector. The study is expected to contribute to the development of clearer and more practical approaches for advancing sustainable aviation fuel in Thailand.
As Thailand’s civil aviation authority responsible for the regulation, oversight, promotion, and development of civil aviation, CAAT is committed to working closely with ICAO, the Republic of Korea, and relevant stakeholders to translate cooperation under the ACT-SAF Programme into tangible outcomes. The knowledge and findings generated through the study will serve as an important foundation for the next phase of Thailand’s SAF development and support the transition of the Thai aviation industry towards greater sustainability.
