CAAT and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Host “THAILAND Reception” for Diplomats from 78 Countries, Highlighting Thailand’s Readiness for the ICAO Council

On 2 November 2026, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted the “THAILAND Reception” at the Infinity 2 Room, Pullman Bangkok King Power. Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from 78 countries were invited to learn about Thailand’s role, vision and readiness as a candidate for election to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and to seek the support of Member States.

Mr. Saran Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered the welcome remarks and conveyed Thailand’s vision. Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, Director General of CAAT, then delivered the opening remarks, presenting Thailand’s readiness and its role in supporting ICAO’s mission. Mr. Akom Termpittayapaisith, former Minister of Finance and Minister of Transport, also attended the event. Guests viewed a video presentation on Thailand’s candidacy before the reception and networking session.

The event conveyed Thailand’s commitment to contribute its civil aviation experience and capabilities to the international aviation community. This covers aviation safety, aviation security, human resource development, and cooperation to make air transport more efficient and sustainable, while promoting inclusive development that leaves no country behind.

Thailand has first-hand experience in systematically transforming its State safety oversight system. It has also played a sustained role in developing air traffic management in the Asia-Pacific region and in providing technical assistance to neighbouring States. Thailand stands ready to share this experience with fellow Member States.

CAAT executives also welcomed and engaged with the diplomatic delegations, building understanding of Thailand’s role and approach to participation in ICAO, and opening opportunities for further aviation cooperation between Thailand and Member States.

The ICAO Council is the governing body of ICAO. It adopts international Standards and Recommended Practices and directs the Organization’s work between Assembly sessions. Council members are elected by the Assembly every three years.

CAAT attaches great importance to international cooperation and active engagement in global aviation fora. It will continue to work with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to seek the support of Member States in the lead-up to the election.
